Martin Cake left Treesforrent in July 2009Trees for rent was started in the summer of 2008 and enjoyed its first Christmas with unprecedented success. We had enormous support from the national and local news stations and press supporting us in this new more environmentally friendly service (see media coverage). We thought we would test the market last year with 500 Norway Spruce trees and we rented out all trees on site with the majority of the trees already booked again for the following year. Following on from this we have now invested in another species of tree the Fraser Fir which we think looks absolutely stunning and is even more robust than the Norway Spruce! We have also this year set up the nursery stock with at present 2,000 Norway, Fraser Fir and Nordman Fir trees. These have grown really well and seem to be thriving down here in the South. We believe that cutting a tree for the Christmas period is not only a waste of a beautiful product that does so much good for the environment but also a waste of resources. All our trees on site have a purpose and use with the trimmings from the trees used to make our Christmas wreaths. The trees when too large to be rented will either be planted on our land or offered to businesses to improve their landscape and help neutralise their carbon emissions. Because the trees are pot grown from day one the trees have a very high success rate of being transplanted unlike any other Christmas tree. Trees for rent are based in Charminster, Dorchester, Dorset and is run day to day by Peter and Jo who are currently free range egg producers and who are on site to care for the trees.
